Housing Allocation: Existing Tenants and Multiple-occupancy
نویسنده
چکیده
Housing allocation problems deal with assigning indivisible objects (houses) to agents who have preferences over these objects. We examine the housing allocation problem with existing tenants, then with both new and existing tenants. In both cases, we present and evaluate an algorithm for assigning houses. We then consider a version of the housing allocation problem where agents are grouped into groups of size k and houses can be occupied by k agents. We present an algorithm to assign houses to agents in this case, and evaluate this algorithm.

Transferring Ownership of Public Housing to Existing Tenants: A Mechanism Design Approach∗
This paper explores situations where tenants in public houses, in a specific neighborhood, are given the legislated right to buy the houses they live in or can choose to remain in their houses and pay the regulated rent. This type of legislation has been passed in many European countries in the last 30–35 years (the U.K. Housing Act 1980 is a leading example). The main objective with this type ...
متن کاملImpact of smoke-free housing policy lease exemptions on compliance, enforcement and smoking behavior: A qualitative study
This paper investigates the impacts of smoke-free housing policies on compliance, enforcement and smoking behavior. From 2012 to 2014, we studied two affordable housing providers in Canada with comprehensive smoke-free policies: Waterloo Regional Housing that required new leases to be non-smoking and exempted existing leases, and Yukon Housing Corporation that required all leases (existing and ...
متن کاملTransferring ownership of public housing to existing tenants: A market design approach
This paper explores a housing market with an existing tenant in each house and where the existing tenants initially rent their houses. The idea is to identify equilibrium prices for the housing market given the prerequisite that a tenant can buy any house on the housing market, including the one that he currently is possessing, or continue renting the house he currently is occupying. The main c...
متن کاملMechanisms for House Allocation with Existing Tenants under Dichotomous Preferences
We consider house allocation with existing tenants in which each agent has dichotomous preferences. We present strategyproof, polynomial-time, and (strongly) individually rational algorithms that satisfy the maximum number of agents. For the endowment only model, one of the algorithms also returns a core-stable allocation.
متن کاملHouse allocation with existing tenants: an equivalence
In this paper we analyze two house allocation mechanisms each of which is designed to eliminate inefficiencies in real-life house allocation problems where there are both existing tenants and newcomers. The Þrst mechanism chooses the unique core allocation of a sister exchange economy which is constructed by assigning each existing tenant her current house and randomly assigning each newcomer...
